Planning

The Annual Plan is the keystone of any good training routine allowing correct periodisation of performance criteria such as force, endurance, muscular endurance, speed, anaerobic endurance and power along with flexibility and psychological and technical skills. The Training Peaks site enables easy viewing of what can sometimes be a complicated document. The software also allows actual loads (black bars) to be viewed against planned loads as shown below

Exercise Prescription

Your training can be viewed in a daily, weekly or monthly spreadsheet and it can be expanded to show the prescribed training in great detail with strength training videos to help you to maintain correct form during gym workouts

 Analysis of your training data

Volume, intensity, running and cycle cadence, speed, pace, altitude.  All these variables can cause havoc in an unstructured training plan, using some relatively simple training tools such as a heart rate monitor allows us to accurately evaluate the training you have completed.  We can compare this to the aims of the session using the graphing tools which help with our feedback and also give you the athlete visual tools to aid motivation, for example seeing a graph of running speeds over a given distance fall each month

Route mapping

The Training Peaks software also allows those with GPS tools such as the Garmin 500 cycle computer to upload their training routes and also download routes that other athletes have uploaded to the system.  We can use this data against the other variables such as speed, cadence, power and heart rate to evaluate performance over given routes and over certain types of terrain.  Or you could just aim to beat your buddy over the local hilly training circuit.

Nutrition

The body will not reach its performance potential without the correct fuel.  The Training Peaks system holds a huge library of nutritional facts for foods and meals.  You can build your own meal plans and see the nutritional facts about each meal then evaluate your nutrition using the meal pods over a daily, weekly or monthly period to help motivate yourself to maintain good nutrition and reach your target body mass.
